3 Perfect Ways To Celebrate! ( + A Glimpse of Summer's Waterdown )

Mother's Day always reminds me of the sweetest spot made for me by my mother when I was young.

I think I've told you before...we lived just above The Village Craft Shoppe, my mum's craft store, on Mill Street. (Yes, "mum!" I'm Canadian and we say "mum" for "mom" :) ) The area was just so picturesque. Her shop was across from the historic library, next to a flower shop, and around the corner was Pause A While, a tea room where we'd do just that. Treated to little tea sandwiches (egg salad and cucumber + cream cheese), we'd have scones and Devonshire cream with our tea. Life there was just. peaches.

I'm certain the atmospheric Waterdown really shaped me, as far as the things I appreciate in life ~ crafting, flowers, English things, lunch with friends, tea, taking a minute...lingering a little while longer.

My mother is the sweet, nurturing type :) so everywhere with her was lovely - a little orb of goodness. We'd enjoy our spots together - that tea room, our little house above her craft business and I remember she'd often take me to the river. We'd get chocolate milk + a sandwich at this little deli and walk on to the river to eat lunch together.

My affectionate name for our street was "Tent Street" becasue the trees canopied and flourish over the streets to make a "tent."

It's curious that The Village Craft Shoppe was an important historic building in the town, the old mill was actually in the store! My mom owned the building and to think, all these years later, Peter and I were drawn into the story of owning a similar, historic gem in the middle of town...where we handcraft every piece of jewelry and headquarter the things we've been called to steward.

I just. loved that house. My room had bunk beds! And a skylight! So exciting to my childhood self. Nestled away in this sweet, little town - it was all just sooo nostalgic. Darling little apartment and my room: light and airy, skylights throughout...my favorite thing about the entire space and time, was that lovely little apartment being exactly and all we needed.

I'd pop down and find fabrics and yarns and buttons and notions - during that time I learned to sew and craft and there grew an appreciation for making things that hasn't left me since :) I loved running the cash register + giving people change. I insisted on paying for my own jewelry beads with my OWN money -- my mum sold glass beads and even in grade 4, based on those little beads, I started a jewelry business. I roped my friend Lauren in and would instruct her about putting the pieces in the very same little bags we use today! I wouldn't trade anything for the understanding of "how a business was run" that found its way into my little mind.

I love what our team gets to do and offer to YOU ~ have a look at the three ingredients I would say contributed to my growing up years: The Loa Earrings ~ for my mother's accomplishment that showed me how to be a businesswoman, The Bravoure Necklace ~ for Strength and The Liora Necklace ~ for all of that light, in heart and in sight that Waterdown had to offer us.

We offer you the best Mother's Day + Grad gift ideas, every piece carrying meaning! Take a peek at summerellis.com + enjoy the beauty of today...
